It was Sunday, our free day in Kyoto.  The rest of the group decided to visit the I. M. Pei exhibit which is about an hour drive.  They will be here next Sunday with a free day, we have to leave next Sunday morning and we wanted to see the textile center so we set off on our own.  It was a fairly long walk to where we wanted to go but we decided to start walking and see how far we got before taking a taxi.
It wasn't too long before we came across a Shinto Temple and we had to stop and take a look.
We stopped in at the Anglican Church.  They were VERY friendly and welcoming.
A telephone booth!!  And with a Japanese style roof!!
I couldn't pass by this perfect rose.
Gas station with all the pumps coming from the ceiling.
We came across a Japanese funeral and were intrigued with the way the attendants lined up and bowed.  Even the man directing traffic bowed.
We finally made it to the textile center and they were having a kimono fashion show.  It was Mother's Day and apparently we happened on a special event.  The remainder of this page will be devoted to pictures and a video of the fashion show.

After the fashion show and some very productive shopping, we decided to find a place for some late lunch.  We didn't wander too far before we found what looked like a nice place.  The pictures looked good.  A lot, maybe most, restaurants have pictures of their offerings.  That's a help for those of us who have NO idea what the Japanese characters mean.  The place we selected turned out to be a nice restaurant with a varied menu.  Granny had tempura soba and I had some sushi.
Tomorrow we are off to Nara to visit a temple and the Great Buddah.
